The 12th Triennial Congress of the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists was held in Vancouver, Canada, 3-8 July 2022. It's an important international gathering of computational and theoretical chemists. - The program features 12 plenary lectures, including the most recent Dirac and Schrödinger Medalists, more than 200 invited lectures, 180 oral contributions and a large number of poster presentations. The program will cover a broad range of topics in method development and applications to chemistry, biochemistry, materials and nanoscience.
Dr Meilan Huang of Queen's University Belfast was invited to give an academic lecture on computer-directed biocatalyst design. Dr Meilan Hunag mentioned that enzymes are increasingly being used in an industrial setting as a more environmentally-friendly alternative to chemical catalysts. In order to produce the ideal biocatalyst, natural enzymes often require optimization to increase their catalytic efficiencies and specificities under a particular range of reaction conditions. Dr Meilan Hunag presented several cases where the application of powerful computational methods to functional protein design has achieved inspiring success.
