The 2nd Low Carbon Clean Energy Workshop (LoCar’s) was successfully held on November 26-27, 2024, at Queen’s University Belfast. Co-chaired by Dr. Meilan Huang of Queen’s University Belfast, alongside colleagues from Inner Mongolia University and Tianjin University, the event marked a significant milestone in fostering international collaboration on green energy and sustainable development.
Building on the success of the inaugural workshop at Tianjin University in April, the Belfast event facilitated focused discussions on the efficient use of renewable resources for the clean production of value-added products. Key topics included future talent training, technological innovation, and developing circular economy strategies for Northern Ireland and North-West China.
Jiahui Zhou delivered a presentation titled Artificial Enzyme Design for Biofuels Production from Agricultural Feedstock. The talk highlighted cutting-edge research in enzyme engineering, showcasing innovative approaches to biofuel production and emphasizing the potential for sustainable solutions in energy generation.
The workshop concluded with a site visit to the Reahill AD plant and a pig farm, offering delegates from Inner Mongolia firsthand insights into renewable energy practices and sustainable agriculture in Northern Ireland.
The success of the workshop, driven by the exceptional efforts of Dr. Huang and the organizing team, underscores Queen’s University Belfast’s commitment to advancing global cooperation in low-carbon technologies and green manufacturing. This event continues to strengthen international partnerships and pave the way for transformative progress in sustainable development.
